My Second Full-Length Play

In the summer of 2023, I was lucky enough to direct my second full-length play for young people, Alice and the Jabberwocky.

Much like my 2015 play The Wendy: A Tale of Peter Pan, I took a familiar story to find what contemporary preoccupations or anxieties might be embedded within. For Lewis Carroll’s Alice books, I kept coming back to the image of a mirror leading to a topsy-turvy world. A single sentence popped into my head several years ago that would become the basis of this play: “A young woman looked into a mirror, and saw a monster looking back at her.”

I was thrilled with how this entire production came together thanks to the design team, production staff, and the brave young actors at the Interlochen Arts Camp who trusted me with their time, and who chose to share my words with their voices.
