Bringing “Next to Normal” to life

For this year’s musical, I directed the Pulitzer Prize-winning show Next to Normal. I’ve wanted to work on this show since I first saw it, and it was a perfect fit for our students and mission. This show really let me lean into an actor-focused approach to musical theatre. Each actor developed their own personal story, and then we found out how the music was already built to support those choices. It was a deeply moving and beautiful production that made me proud.
